There are at least four case reports of hepatotoxicity associated with the use of gotu kola. However, more information is needed to determine if gotu kola was the causative factor in these cases.

Here's the simple version: your birth control pill (the ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone combo) is processed by your liver, and so is gotu kola. The concern isn't that one changes how the other works in a strong, predictable way. Instead, both can occasionally stress the liver, so using them together might add up and be a little harder on it.

I'll be honest that this is mostly theoretical. There are only a handful of case reports tying gotu kola to liver trouble, and we don't know for sure it was the cause. Still, watch for signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you have any liver concerns.
