Theoretically, taking Griffonia simplicifolia seed extract with dextromethorphan might increase the risk of serotonergic adverse effects, such as serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders such as Call-Fleming syndrome.
Griffonia simplicifolia seed extract contains 5-HTP. Taking 5-HTP with dextromethorphan increases the risk of serotonergic adverse effects.

Here's the deal with combining Griffonia (a natural source of 5-HTP) and your Sudafed Cold/Flu product. The dextromethorphan in this medicine, the cough-suppressing ingredient, can gently nudge up serotonin levels in your brain. Griffonia does the same thing, since 5-HTP is a direct building block of serotonin. Stacking the two could, in theory, push serotonin too high.

When serotonin climbs too far you can run into what's called serotonin syndrome: agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or confusion. This warning is theoretical, based on how these substances work rather than a long list of real cases, so don't panic. Still, since both push the same direction, I'd run it by your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, especially if you take other serotonin-affecting meds.
