Griffonia Simplicifolia + Imipramine
Imipramine brand names: Tofranil, Tofranil PM.
Griffonia Simplicifolia has a moderate interaction with Imipramine. Theoretically, taking Griffonia simplicifolia seed extract with antidepressant drugs might increase the risk of serotonergic adverse effects, such as serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders such as Call-Fleming syndrome.

ANTIDEPRESSANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Imipramine
Imipramine falls under ANTIDEPRESSANT DRUGS — the group Griffonia Simplicifolia interacts with.
Griffonia simplicifolia seed extract contains 5-HTP. Taking 5-HTP with antidepressant drugs increases the risk of serotonergic adverse effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: imipramine (Tofranil) works by raising serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain. Griffonia seed extract supplies 5-HTP, which your body turns into more serotonin. So you're stacking two things that both push serotonin upward, and that's where the concern comes in.
When serotonin climbs too high, you can get what we call serotonin syndrome: agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or confusion. To be fair, this warning is theoretical, based on how these compounds work rather than lots of real-world reports, so it's a caution, not a guarantee. Still, since imipramine already affects serotonin, I'd talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two rather than trying it on your own.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Imipramine page
“Imipramine (Tofranil) is an older tricyclic antidepressant, and the supplements on this page deserve real scrutiny before you add one. Most of the list acts on the liver enzymes that process the drug, so an ingredient can quietly raise or lower imipramine levels: grapefruit pushes them up, while St.”

About Griffonia Simplicifolia
What is Griffonia Simplicifolia?
- Low mood
- Sleep problems
- Anxiety
- Appetite control
- Headaches
Griffonia simplicifolia is a West African shrub whose seeds are a natural source of 5-HTP, a building block of the brain chemical serotonin. Some people use it for mood, sleep, and appetite, but high-quality human evidence is limited, and it should not replace prescribed treatment. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you take medicines that affect serotonin.
About Imipramine
What Is Imipramine Used For?
Brand names: Tofranil, Tofranil PM
Imipramine is used to relieve symptoms of depression. Both Imipramine Hydrochloride tablets and Imipramine Pamoate capsules are approved for this use. Endogenous depression — the kind that seems to arise from within rather than a clear outside cause — tends to respond especially well. It may take one to three weeks before you notice the full benefit.
Imipramine Hydrochloride tablets are also approved as a short-term, add-on treatment to help reduce nighttime bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis) in children aged 6 and older, after a doctor has ruled out physical causes.
