Here's the gist with Fintepla (fenfluramine) and guarumo. Fenfluramine works in the brain to calm seizure activity, and it can cause drowsiness or tiredness on its own. The concern here isn't about your liver enzymes or how the drug is cleared. It's simpler: guarumo, in an animal study, had a calming, sedative effect on the nervous system. So stacking it on top of fenfluramine could, in theory, leave a child feeling extra sleepy, sluggish, or unsteady on their feet.

I want to be honest about the evidence though. This warning comes only from a lab/animal study, not from people, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, since fenfluramine is used in young children with serious seizure disorders, I'd run guarumo by your child's neurologist or pharmacist before adding it.

Guarumo (Cecropia obtusifolia) is a tropical tree used in Latin American traditional medicine, most often as a leaf tea for diabetes and high blood pressure. Some early laboratory and small human studies suggest it may modestly affect blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. What Is Fenfluramine Used For?

Brand name: Fintepla

Fintepla (fenfluramine oral solution) is approved to treat seizures associated with Dravet syndrome (DS) and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) in patients 2 years of age and older. It is used alongside other antiseizure medications.

Both conditions are severe, often hard-to-control forms of epilepsy that typically begin in childhood. Fintepla is available only through a restricted program called the Fintepla REMS because of serious heart-related risks.
