Metoclopramide Hydrochloride falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Guarumo interacts with.

In an animal study, an aqueous extract of guarumo depressed the central nervous system, inducing significant motor incoordination and muscle relaxant activity. Theoretically, guarumo might potentiate the sedative effects of drugs.

Here's the simple version: metoclopramide already tends to make some people feel drowsy or foggy, and on its own it can occasionally cause restlessness or muscle twitches. Guarumo is the wild card here. In one animal study, a water extract of the leaves seemed to calm the nervous system and caused some muscle relaxation and unsteadiness. So in theory, pairing the two could add up and leave you more sleepy or sluggish than you'd expect.

I want to be honest, though: this is theoretical and based only on animal data, not human studies, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Metoclopramide isn't a prodrug, so guarumo isn't changing how it's activated. Still, if you plan to use guarumo tea while on Gimoti, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor first, and go easy on driving until you know how you feel.

Guarumo (Cecropia obtusifolia) is a tropical tree used in Latin American traditional medicine, most often as a leaf tea for diabetes and high blood pressure. Some early laboratory and small human studies suggest it may modestly affect blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. What Is Metoclopramide Nasal Spray Used For?

Brand name: Gimoti

Gimoti (metoclopramide nasal spray) is approved for adults with acute and recurrent diabetic gastroparesis — a condition where diabetes damages the nerves controlling stomach emptying, causing nausea, vomiting, and bloating. It works to relieve those symptoms by helping the stomach empty more normally.

Gimoti is not recommended for children, or for adults with moderate to severe kidney or liver disease. It is also not recommended for adults taking strong CYP2D6 inhibitor medications (certain antidepressants and other drugs that slow how the body breaks down metoclopramide).
