Pentaerythritol tetranitrate (Peritrate) is a nitrate that works by relaxing and widening your blood vessels, which eases the heart's workload and helps prevent chest pain (angina). Here's the thing about hawthorn: it may have its own mild blood-vessel-relaxing and blood-pressure-lowering effects. So when you stack the two together, the worry is that those effects could add up.

In plain terms, you might get too much of a good thing: lightheadedness, dizziness, a pounding headache, or feeling faint when you stand up, because your blood pressure dips lower than intended. I'll be honest, this concern is mostly theoretical and based on how these two work, not strong human studies. Still, since both touch the heart, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
