Hawthorn + Acebutolol
Acebutolol brand names: Sectral, Rhotral.
Hawthorn has a moderate interaction with Acebutolol. Theoretically, concomitant use might cause additive effects on blood pressure and heart rate.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
BETA-BLOCKERS
Why this applies to Acebutolol
Acebutolol falls under BETA-BLOCKERS — the group Hawthorn interacts with.
Some evidence shows that hawthorn might lower blood pressure and heart rate.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: both hawthorn and your acebutolol push in the same direction. Acebutolol (Sectral) is a beta-blocker that lowers your blood pressure and slows your heart rate. Hawthorn may gently do the same thing. Stack them together and those effects could add up a bit more than expected.
In real life, that might show up as feeling dizzy or lightheaded, unusually tired, or noticing your pulse running slower than normal, especially when you stand up quickly. I'll be honest with you: this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how these two are thought to work rather than strong human studies. Still, since both touch your heart, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding hawthorn so they can keep an eye on your numbers.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. From our pharmacist’s overview on the Acebutolol page
“Acebutolol (Sectral) lowers blood pressure and slows the heart, so the eight major-rated interactions on this list of 173 supplements deserve real attention. Most of the entries, well over a hundred, either stack on its blood-pressure-lowering effect and drop you too low, or push the other way and let your pressure climb back up.”

About Hawthorn
What is Hawthorn?
- Heart failure symptoms
- High blood pressure
- Chest pain (angina)
- Irregular heartbeat
- Digestive upset
- Anxiety
Hawthorn is a plant traditionally used for heart-related complaints, and some studies suggest it may modestly help symptoms of mild heart failure when added to standard care. However, the evidence is mixed and it should never replace prescribed heart medicines. Always talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using hawthorn, especially if you have a heart condition.
About Acebutolol
What Is Acebutolol Used For?
Brand names: Sectral, Rhotral
Acebutolol hydrochloride capsules are used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. They can be taken alone or with other blood pressure medicines, especially thiazide-type diuretics (water pills).
They are also used to manage ventricular premature beats. These are extra, early heartbeats that start in the lower chambers of the heart. The medicine reduces the total number of these beats, including paired, multiform and R-on-T beats.

Acebutolol Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Acebutolol as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Hawthorn — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
