The flowering above ground parts of hedge mustard contain cardioactive glycosides. Theoretically, concomitant use of potassium depleting diuretics and hedge mustard can increase the risk of cardiac glycoside toxicity due to potassium depletion.

Here's the concern with pairing hedge mustard and Polythiazide (Renese). Polythiazide is a thiazide-type water pill, and like other thiazides it tends to flush potassium out of your body over time. Hedge mustard's above-ground parts contain small amounts of natural heart-active compounds (cardiac glycosides). When potassium runs low, the heart becomes more sensitive to those glycosides, which in theory could raise the risk of effects like an irregular or pounding heartbeat, nausea, or dizziness.

I want to be honest: this is a theoretical interaction based on how these substances behave, not on solid human studies, so don't panic. Still, since Polythiazide already lowers potassium, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you also take a heart medication or have your potassium checked.
