The flowering above ground parts of hedge mustard contain cardioactive glycosides. Theoretically, concomitant use of potassium depleting diuretics and hedge mustard can increase the risk of cardiac glycoside toxicity due to potassium depletion.

Here's the connection worth knowing about. Indapamide is a water pill that makes your body get rid of extra salt and water, but along the way it can also lower your potassium level. Hedge mustard naturally contains small amounts of heart-acting compounds called cardiac glycosides (the same family of chemicals as digoxin). When potassium runs low, the heart becomes more sensitive to those compounds, so in theory pairing the two could raise the odds of heart rhythm problems, nausea, or feeling unusually weak or dizzy.

I want to be honest with you: this is a theoretical concern based on the plant's chemistry, not something proven in real patients, and an occasional soothing throat tea is far less concentrated than regular supplement use. Still, since indapamide already nudges potassium down, it's smart to mention any hedge mustard use to your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Indapamide Used For?

Brand names: Lozol, Lozide

Indapamide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), either on their own or together with other blood pressure medications. Lowering blood pressure helps reduce the risk of related complications.

Indapamide tablets are also used to treat salt and fluid retention (edema) associated with congestive heart failure. In certain cases, indapamide may also be appropriate during pregnancy when swelling is caused by a medical condition rather than normal pregnancy changes — but routine use in otherwise healthy pregnant women is not recommended.
