Allopurinol falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Hemp Agrimony interacts with.

Hemp agrimony contains hepatotoxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA). Theoretically, using hemp agrimony with hepatotoxic drugs might have additive adverse effects on the liver. Some drugs that can adversely affect the liver include acetaminophen (Tylenol and others), amiodarone (Cordarone), carbamazepine (Tegretol), isoniazid (INH), methotrexate (Rheumatrex), methyldopa (Aldomet), fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox), erythromycin (Erythrocin, Ilosone, others), phenytoin (Dilantin), lovastatin (Mevacor), pravastatin (Pravachol), simvastatin (Zocor), and many others.

Here's the simple version: hemp agrimony can contain natural compounds called pyrrolizidine alkaloids that may be hard on the liver. Allopurinol can also occasionally stress the liver on its own. So the concern here isn't about one changing how the other works in your bloodstream. It's that putting two things together that each can irritate the liver might add up and increase the strain.

I'll be honest with you, this caution is theoretical, based on how these ingredients behave, not on real cases in people taking both. Still, since hemp agrimony isn't recommended for swallowing anyway, I'd skip it and check with your pharmacist or doctor. Watch for signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and report those right away.

About Allopurinol

What Is Allopurinol Used For?

Brand names: Zyloprim, Caplenal, Cosuric, Rimapurinol, Zyloric

Allopurinol tablets (including Zyloprim) are used in adults to treat the signs and symptoms of gout — including gout attacks, tophi (uric acid deposits), joint damage, and kidney problems caused by uric acid. Allopurinol tablets are also used in adults to reduce recurrent calcium oxalate kidney stones when uric acid in the urine is too high, even after lifestyle changes.

For adults and children with leukemia, lymphoma, or solid tumor cancers, allopurinol is used to control uric acid levels that rise during cancer treatment. The injectable forms — Allopurinol sodium for injection and Aloprim — are specifically for patients who cannot take medicine by mouth and are given intravenously (through a vein) in a hospital or clinical setting. Note: allopurinol tablets are not recommended for people who have high uric acid levels but no symptoms.
