These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Hemp Agrimony interacts with whole categories of medication. Rifampin falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Hemp Agrimony in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Rifampin
Rifampin falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Hemp Agrimony interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing about pairing hemp agrimony with rifampin: this isn't about one speeding up or slowing down the other. It's about your liver doing double duty. Rifampin is well known for putting stress on the liver, and your doctor likely already checks your liver enzymes while you're on it. Hemp agrimony can contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids, natural compounds that may also harm the liver.
Stack those two together and you could, in theory, add to the strain. Watch for signs like yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, nausea, belly pain, or unusual tiredness. I'll be honest, this concern is theoretical and based on how the chemistry works, not on solid human studies. Still, since most experts advise against taking hemp agrimony internally at all, please check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS
2 of 2Rifampin also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to understand about this pairing. The worry isn't that rifampin gets thrown off by hemp agrimony. Rifampin is actually one of the strongest 'speed-up' drugs we have, meaning it revs up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Hemp agrimony naturally carries compounds called pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which can be hard on the liver. The concern is that rifampin's enzyme boost could turn those plant compounds into more toxic byproducts faster, potentially adding stress to your liver.
I'll be honest with you though, this is theoretical and based only on lab and animal work, not real patients. Still, hemp agrimony already isn't recommended internally because of liver risk, and rifampin can be tough on the liver on its own. I'd skip the combination and check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

About Hemp Agrimony
What is Hemp Agrimony?
- Digestive complaints
- Cold and flu symptoms
- Respiratory conditions
- Mild fever
- Traditional 'tonic' or detox use
Hemp agrimony is a traditional European herb that has been used for digestion, colds, and as a general tonic, but there is very little reliable human research to support these uses. More importantly, the plant can contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids that may harm the liver, so most experts do not recommend taking it internally. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using any product that contains hemp agrimony.
About Rifampin
What Is Rifampin Used For?
Brand names: Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifadin Injection, Rofactor
Rifampin treats all forms of tuberculosis (TB). It is almost always used in combination with other antibiotics — your doctor will build a multi-drug regimen tailored to your infection. Treatment usually runs for at least 6 months total.
Rifampin is also used to clear Neisseria meningitidis bacteria from the nose and throat in people who carry the germ without being sick themselves. It is not used to treat active meningococcal disease. The intravenous (IV) forms — Rifadin IV, Rifadin IV NOVAPLUS, and the injectable form of Rifampin — are specifically indicated when a patient cannot take the drug by mouth.
