Amiodarone falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Hemp Agrimony interacts with.

Hemp agrimony contains hepatotoxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA). Theoretically, using hemp agrimony with hepatotoxic drugs might have additive adverse effects on the liver. Some drugs that can adversely affect the liver include acetaminophen (Tylenol and others), amiodarone (Cordarone), carbamazepine (Tegretol), isoniazid (INH), methotrexate (Rheumatrex), methyldopa (Aldomet), fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox), erythromycin (Erythrocin, Ilosone, others), phenytoin (Dilantin), lovastatin (Mevacor), pravastatin (Pravachol), simvastatin (Zocor), and many others.

Here's the thing to know about pairing hemp agrimony with amiodarone: this isn't about one changing the other's blood levels. It's about the liver. Hemp agrimony can contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids, natural compounds that may be toxic to liver cells. Amiodarone, on its own, is already well known for being hard on the liver over time. So the worry is that the two together could add up and stress your liver more than either would alone.

I'll be straight with you: this concern is theoretical, based on what we know about these compounds rather than real cases of people taking them together. Still, amiodarone needs regular liver monitoring anyway, so I'd steer clear of internal hemp agrimony and check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

What Is Amiodarone Used For?

Brand names: Pacerone, Cordarone

Amiodarone is prescribed for adults with serious, life-threatening heart-rhythm problems that haven't responded to other medications. Specifically, it's used for two dangerous arrhythmias (abnormal heartbeats): recurrent ventricular fibrillation (a chaotic, potentially fatal heart rhythm) and recurrent ventricular tachycardia (a dangerously fast heart rhythm that causes unstable blood pressure).

Because amiodarone comes with significant risks, doctors reserve it for situations where other options haven't worked or can't be tolerated. It is not a first-choice medication — it's a last-resort tool for serious, life-threatening conditions.
