Binimetinib falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Hemp Agrimony interacts with.

Hemp agrimony contains hepatotoxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA). Theoretically, using hemp agrimony with hepatotoxic drugs might have additive adverse effects on the liver. Some drugs that can adversely affect the liver include acetaminophen (Tylenol and others), amiodarone (Cordarone), carbamazepine (Tegretol), isoniazid (INH), methotrexate (Rheumatrex), methyldopa (Aldomet), fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox), erythromycin (Erythrocin, Ilosone, others), phenytoin (Dilantin), lovastatin (Mevacor), pravastatin (Pravachol), simvastatin (Zocor), and many others.

Here's the concern with pairing hemp agrimony and binimetinib (Mektovi). This isn't about one drug speeding up or slowing down the other. Instead, it's about adding two stresses to the same organ: your liver. Hemp agrimony can contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids, natural compounds that may be toxic to the liver. Binimetinib is already known to raise liver enzymes and can occasionally cause real liver injury, which is why your oncology team checks blood work regularly.

Stacking a possibly liver-harming herb on top of a drug that's already tough on the liver could, in theory, add up. Keep in mind this is a theoretical caution based on how these compounds behave, not proven cases. Still, with a cancer medication like this, I'd skip hemp agrimony and check with your oncologist or pharmacist first.

About Binimetinib

What Is Binimetinib Used For?

Brand name: Mektovi

Mektovi (binimetinib) is used in combination with another medicine called encorafenib. Together, they treat unresectable (cannot be surgically removed) or metastatic (spread to other parts of the body) melanoma in patients whose tumors have a BRAF V600E or V600K mutation, as confirmed by an FDA-approved test.

Mektovi, used with encorafenib, is also approved for adult patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that carries a BRAF V600E mutation, again confirmed by an FDA-approved test. In both cases, testing for the specific mutation is required before starting treatment.
