These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Hemp Agrimony interacts with whole categories of medication. Nevirapine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Hemp Agrimony in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Nevirapine
Nevirapine falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Hemp Agrimony interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with pairing hemp agrimony and nevirapine. This isn't about one canceling out the other or changing your HIV control. The real issue is your liver. Nevirapine already carries a well-known risk of liver irritation, sometimes serious, especially in the first few months of treatment. Hemp agrimony can contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids, natural compounds that are themselves hard on the liver.
Stack those two together and you may stress the liver more than either would alone. Watch for warning signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, nausea, or unusual tiredness. This is theoretical, based on how these compounds behave, but given nevirapine's known liver risk, I'd skip internal hemp agrimony and check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS
2 of 2Nevirapine also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the key thing to understand about this pairing. The worry isn't that hemp agrimony changes how well your nevirapine works. It's the other way around. Nevirapine speeds up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and that same enzyme turns the pyrrolizidine alkaloids in hemp agrimony into more harmful, liver-toxic byproducts. So in theory, taking them together could make the herb a little rougher on your liver.
I want to be honest that this concern comes from lab and animal data, not real human studies, so it's more of a caution than a proven danger. But hemp agrimony already carries liver risks on its own, and nevirapine itself can stress the liver too. Watching for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, or belly pain is wise. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using any product with hemp agrimony.

About Hemp Agrimony
What is Hemp Agrimony?
- Digestive complaints
- Cold and flu symptoms
- Respiratory conditions
- Mild fever
- Traditional 'tonic' or detox use
Hemp agrimony is a traditional European herb that has been used for digestion, colds, and as a general tonic, but there is very little reliable human research to support these uses. More importantly, the plant can contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids that may harm the liver, so most experts do not recommend taking it internally. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using any product that contains hemp agrimony.
