HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Ponatinib
Ponatinib falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Hemp Agrimony interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with pairing hemp agrimony and ponatinib (Iclusig). Ponatinib is already known to be tough on the liver, and serious liver injury is one of the warnings that comes with it. Hemp agrimony can contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids, natural compounds that may also damage the liver. So the worry is simply additive stress on the same organ, meaning a higher chance of problems like rising liver enzymes, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or belly pain.
I'll be honest that this is a theoretical caution based on how these substances behave, not a proven case-by-case interaction. Still, given that ponatinib alone can harm the liver, I'd skip internal hemp agrimony products and check with your oncology team or pharmacist first.

About Hemp Agrimony
What is Hemp Agrimony?
- Digestive complaints
- Cold and flu symptoms
- Respiratory conditions
- Mild fever
- Traditional 'tonic' or detox use
Hemp agrimony is a traditional European herb that has been used for digestion, colds, and as a general tonic, but there is very little reliable human research to support these uses. More importantly, the plant can contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids that may harm the liver, so most experts do not recommend taking it internally. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using any product that contains hemp agrimony.
About Ponatinib
What Is Ponatinib Used For?
Brand name: Iclusig
Iclusig (ponatinib) is used to treat adult patients with Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL) — either newly diagnosed (in combination with chemotherapy) or in patients for whom no other kinase inhibitors are appropriate, or who have a specific mutation called T315I. Iclusig is not recommended for patients newly diagnosed with chronic phase CML who have not yet tried other treatments.
