Dutasteride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Horny Goat Weed interacts with.

Theoretically, horny goat weed might increase the effects and side effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, horny goat weed extract inhibits CYP3A4 and suppresses CYP3A4 mRNA expression. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for dutasteride (Avodart): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this drug out of your body. In test-tube studies, horny goat weed seemed to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, dutasteride could hang around longer and its effects could build up a bit.

For dutasteride, that might mean more of its usual side effects, things like a lower sex drive, trouble getting an erection, or some breast tenderness. But honestly, this is only a lab finding so far, and it has not been seen in actual people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before pairing the two, especially since both target prostate and sexual symptoms.

About Dutasteride

What Is Dutasteride Used For?

Brand name: Avodart

Dutasteride capsules are used to treat symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate — in men. Treatment can help improve urinary symptoms, lower the risk of sudden urinary retention (being completely unable to urinate), and reduce the likelihood of needing BPH-related surgery.

Dutasteride capsules can also be used in combination with tamsulosin (an alpha-blocker) to treat symptomatic BPH in men with an enlarged prostate. Importantly, dutasteride is not approved for the prevention of prostate cancer.
