Epoprostenol (Flolan) is a powerful medicine given through a continuous IV pump to widen blood vessels and lower the high pressure in the arteries of your lungs. One of its biggest known effects is dropping your blood pressure, which can leave you feeling dizzy, lightheaded, flushed, or faint.

Here's the concern with horny goat weed: in lab and animal studies, it has shown a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of its own. So in theory, stacking it on top of epoprostenol could push your pressure down a little further. I'll be honest though, this has not actually been reported in people, so the evidence is weak. Still, because epoprostenol is such a serious, finely-tuned medicine, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before adding any supplement.

What Is Epoprostenol Used For?

Epoprostenol (available as the brands Epoprostenol, Flolan, and Veletri) is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — WHO Group 1, a type of high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. The goal is to improve how much physical activity patients can handle.

The clinical studies that established its effectiveness included mainly patients with moderate-to-severe symptoms (NYHA Functional Class III–IV) whose PAH was idiopathic (no known cause), heritable (genetic), or related to connective tissue diseases such as scleroderma.
