Why this applies to Flibanserin

Flibanserin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Horny Goat Weed interacts with.

Theoretically, horny goat weed might increase the effects and side effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, horny goat weed extract inhibits CYP3A4 and suppresses CYP3A4 mRNA expression. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your body clears flibanserin (Addyi) using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, horny goat weed appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that held true in people, less of the drug would be broken down, so more could build up in your system. With flibanserin, that could mean a bigger chance of its known side effects, things like dizziness, sleepiness, nausea, dry mouth, and especially a drop in blood pressure or even fainting.

The important caveat: this is only seen in lab studies, not in actual humans, so it's theoretical right now. Still, because Addyi already carries warnings about low blood pressure and fainting, I'd play it safe. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

What Is Flibanserin Used For?

Brand name: Addyi

Addyi is approved to treat acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) — a condition where low sexual desire causes significant distress or relationship difficulty — in women under 65. "Acquired" means the low desire developed after a period of normal desire; "generalized" means it happens regardless of the situation or partner.

Addyi is not intended for use in men, and it is not a sexual performance enhancer. It is also not meant for HSDD that is caused by a medical condition, a psychiatric condition, relationship problems, or another medication.
