Zaleplon falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Horny Goat Weed interacts with.

Theoretically, horny goat weed might increase the effects and side effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, horny goat weed extract inhibits CYP3A4 and suppresses CYP3A4 mRNA expression. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down zaleplon and clear it out. In test-tube studies, horny goat weed has slowed that same enzyme down. If that were to happen in real life, zaleplon could hang around longer and hit a little harder, meaning more next-morning grogginess, dizziness, trouble concentrating, or feeling unsteady on your feet.

Now, the honest part: this is only seen in lab settings, not in actual people, so it's a theoretical concern rather than a proven problem. Still, since zaleplon already makes you drowsy, I'd play it safe. Run this combo by your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, and watch for extra sedation if you do.

What Is Zaleplon Used For?

Brand names: Sonata, Starnoc

Zaleplon capsules are approved for the short-term treatment of insomnia. Specifically, they help reduce the time it takes to fall asleep (sleep onset). Clinical studies showed this benefit for up to 30 days of use.

Zaleplon has not been shown to increase total sleep time or reduce the number of times you wake up during the night. It is intended for short-term use, and if sleep problems continue beyond 7–10 days, a doctor should evaluate you for an underlying cause.
