Lansoprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Hu Zhang interacts with.

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19.
Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP2C19 enzyme. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the basic idea with Prevacid (lansoprazole). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C19 to clear this medication out. Hu Zhang is rich in resveratrol, and in test-tube studies resveratrol appears to slow that same enzyme down. If it does the same thing in people, lansoprazole could hang around a bit longer and build up slightly, which might mean a touch more of the usual side effects like headache, diarrhea, nausea, or stomach upset.

I want to be honest, though: this is theoretical. It comes from lab work, not from real-world reports in patients, and lansoprazole is generally a forgiving, well-tolerated drug. Small food amounts are unlikely to matter, but concentrated supplements are a different story. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing the two.

Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, a clinical study in adults with NAFLD found that adding resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks did not necessitate dose adjustments to any established medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here's the thinking on this pair. Hu Zhang is packed with resveratrol, and in test-tube studies resveratrol can gently block CYP3A4, one of the liver enzymes that helps clear lansoprazole (Prevacid). If that enzyme slows down, a bit more lansoprazole could linger in your body. In practice that might mean slightly stronger or longer-lasting effects, like occasional headache, stomach upset, or diarrhea, though lansoprazole is generally pretty forgiving.

The good news: this is theoretical, based on lab work, not real-world problems. A human study using a hefty resveratrol dose didn't require changing any CYP3A4 medications. Lansoprazole is not a prodrug, so we're not worried about it failing to work. Food amounts wouldn't matter, but if you're using concentrated Hu Zhang supplements, just give your pharmacist a heads-up.

What Is Lansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Prevacid

Lansoprazole is prescribed for a range of conditions where excess stomach acid is the problem. It treats active stomach and duodenal ulcers (sores in the stomach or upper small intestine), helps heal ulcers caused by NSAID pain relievers, and can reduce the risk of those ulcers coming back.

It's also used for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis (acid damage to the esophagus), and rare conditions where the stomach makes far too much acid — like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. When combined with antibiotics, it helps wipe out H. pylori bacteria that cause recurring ulcers.
