These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with whole categories of medication. Metoprolol falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Humann Superbeets Heart Chews in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Minor).
Antihypertensive Drugs
1 of 2Why this applies to Metoprolol
Metoprolol falls under Antihypertensive Drugs — the group Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: metoprolol already lowers your blood pressure and slows your heart rate. The beetroot nitrates in these chews can gently relax and widen your blood vessels too. So you're not changing how metoprolol is broken down, you're just adding a second mild blood-pressure-lowering nudge on top of it.
For most people this overlap is small and short-lived, but it can stack up enough to make you feel a bit dizzy, lightheaded, or unsteady, especially when you stand up quickly. Rising slowly and staying hydrated helps. If you notice these symptoms, or you already run on the low side, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before making any changes. Don't stop your metoprolol on your own.
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
2 of 2Metoprolol also falls under Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the gist for these beet chews and your metoprolol. Each two-chew serving has about 150mg of grape seed extract, and lab studies hint it may mildly block CYP2D6, the liver enzyme that breaks down metoprolol. If that enzyme slows down, a little more metoprolol could linger in your system. Metoprolol is active as-is (not a prodrug), so higher levels would mean a slightly stronger effect, think more lightheadedness, fatigue, a slower pulse, or lower blood pressure.
That said, this is very theoretical. It comes from test-tube work, not real people, and no actual cases have been reported. For most folks it won't be noticeable. Still, since both can nudge blood pressure down, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before starting.

“With metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), a beta-blocker for high blood pressure and heart problems, these interactions deserve genuine care, starting with the five rated major. Most entries pull blood pressure one way or the other: many supplements add to metoprolol's lowering effect and can drop pressure too far, while a few, tyramine…”

About Metoprolol
What Is Metoprolol Used For?
Brand names: Lopressor, Toprol XL
Metoprolol is used for several heart and blood pressure conditions. Which ones depend on the product you take.
- High blood pressure (hypertension): metoprolol tartrate tablets, metoprolol succinate extended-release tablets (including Toprol-XL), and Lopressor tablets lower blood pressure. This lowers the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
- Angina pectoris: these same tablet products are also used for angina.
- Heart failure: metoprolol succinate extended-release tablets (including Toprol-XL) are used in heart failure. They reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and heart failure hospitalizations.
- Heart attack: metoprolol tartrate tablets and Lopressor tablets reduce the risk of cardiovascular death after a definite or suspected acute heart attack, in stable patients, when used with intravenous metoprolol. Metoprolol tartrate injection is used in the hospital for the same purpose, followed by oral metoprolol.
