Valsartan falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Kiwi interacts with.

Clinical research suggests that consuming kiwi reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure in hypertensive individuals. Theoretically, concomitant use of kiwi and antihypertensive drugs may increase the risk of hypotension when used in combination with drugs that lower blood pressure. These include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the simple version: kiwi itself may gently lower blood pressure, and Valsartan (Diovan) is already doing that job for you. Put the two together and their effects can add up, which in theory could nudge your blood pressure a little lower than expected.

If that happens, you might notice things like feeling dizzy or lightheaded, especially when you stand up quickly, plus tiredness or a bit of headache. I want to be honest, though: this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how kiwi works, not strong proof of a problem. Enjoying kiwi as a regular food is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you eat large amounts or notice dizziness, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

About Valsartan

What Is Valsartan Used For?

Brand names: Diovan, Prexxartan

Valsartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, heart failure in adults, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular death in adults who have had a heart attack and have a weakened heart muscle. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

Diovan (valsartan) tablets are approved to treat high blood pressure in children as young as 1 year old. Valsartan tablets (other brands) are approved for children 6 years and older. Valsartan oral solution is specifically indicated for patients with heart failure or post-heart attack left ventricular dysfunction who are unable to swallow tablets.
