Here's the gist with Farxiga (dapagliflozin) and kombucha. Kombucha doesn't change how your body breaks down dapagliflozin. Instead, the concern is simpler: some animal studies suggest kombucha may have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect of its own. If that holds true in people, drinking it alongside your diabetes medicine could nudge your numbers a little lower than expected.

I'll be honest, this is theoretical and based on animal data, so I wouldn't lose sleep over an occasional glass. Dapagliflozin by itself rarely causes low blood sugar unless you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea. Still, it's smart to watch for shakiness, sweating, or dizziness, and check your readings if you drink it regularly. Chat with your pharmacist if anything feels off.

Dapagliflozin is used for several serious conditions. It helps improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise). It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.

Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is additionally approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, hospitalization, and urgent visits due to heart failure in adults with heart failure — and to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, including reducing the risk of kidney failure and cardiovascular death, in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of getting worse.
