Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Glyburide
Glyburide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Kombucha interacts with.
Animal research shows that administering kombucha can lower blood glucose levels.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: glyburide already pushes your blood sugar down by telling your pancreas to release more insulin. The thought is that kombucha may nudge your blood sugar a little lower too, so the two together could stack up and tip you into low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). With glyburide, that can show up as shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a racing heart, hunger, or confusion.
I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's theoretical and mostly comes from animal studies, not solid human research, so it's not something to panic about. An occasional glass is unlikely to cause trouble. If you drink kombucha regularly, just keep an eye on your readings and mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

About Kombucha
What is Kombucha?
- General wellness and gut health
- Digestion
- Immune support
- Energy and detox claims
- Source of probiotics
Kombucha is a fermented tea that many people enjoy as a probiotic-rich beverage, but solid human research proving specific health benefits is lacking. It is generally fine in moderate amounts for healthy adults, though homemade or unpasteurized versions can carry contamination risks. Pregnant people, those who are breastfeeding, and people with weakened immune systems should be cautious or avoid it.
About Glyburide
What Is Glyburide Used For?
Brand names: Diabeta, Micronase, Glynase, Glycron, Micronized, Glynase PresTab, Albert Glyburide
Glyburide tablets are used alongside diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication where the body produces dangerous levels of acids called ketones).
Glyburide may be used alone or combined with metformin when metformin alone is not enough. It can also be used to help transition patients who are moving from insulin or other diabetes pills to a new regimen, under a doctor's guidance.

Glyburide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Glyburide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Kombucha — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
