Why this applies to Primidone

Primidone falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Kratom interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the risk for adverse CNS depressant effects.
Kratom contains mitragynine, a mu-receptor agonist that may cause respiratory depression. Although results from animal research suggest that mitragynine causes less respiratory depression than the CNS depressant codeine, fatalities have been reported for patients who ingested a combination of kratom and O-desmethyltramadol, another mu-receptor agonist. Additionally, observational research suggests that adverse effects such as drowsiness and coma are more likely to occur in individuals taking kratom in combination with agents such as opioids and sedatives. Theoretically, ingesting kratom along with other CNS depressants can increase the risk of adverse effects, including drowsiness, coma, and/or severe or fatal respiratory depression.

Here's the simple version: both kratom and primidone calm down your central nervous system. Primidone is a seizure medicine that already tends to cause drowsiness, dizziness, and slowed coordination, partly because your body converts some of it into phenobarbital, a strong sedative. Kratom adds its own sedating, opioid-like effects on top of that.

Stack the two and you could feel much more groggy, foggy, or unsteady than usual. In the worst cases, combining sedatives like this has been linked to dangerously slow breathing. This warning is theoretical, based on how these substances behave rather than firm studies, but the concern is real. Please don't change your primidone on your own. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Primidone Used For?

Brand name: Mysoline

Primidone tablets — sold as Mysoline or under the generic name primidone — are used to control seizures in people with epilepsy. Both Mysoline and primidone tablets are approved for grand mal (generalized tonic-clonic), psychomotor, and focal (partial) epileptic seizures.

Primidone can be used alone or alongside other anti-seizure medicines. It may also help control grand mal seizures that haven't responded well to other anticonvulsant treatments.
