Here's the gist of this one. Belinostat (Beleodaq) is moved around in your body partly by a transporter protein called P-glycoprotein. Lab studies suggest licorice can rev up that pump's activity. If that happened in real life, it could push more belinostat out and lower how much your body actually absorbs, which in theory might make your chemo a little less effective.

I want to be straight with you though: this is based only on test-tube and animal research, not on people taking belinostat. So it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Since belinostat is a serious cancer treatment, please don't add any licorice supplement without first checking with your oncology team or pharmacist.

Licorice root is a traditional remedy used for sore throats, coughs, and digestive complaints, but solid human evidence is limited for most uses. Regular licorice contains glycyrrhizin, which can raise blood pressure and lower potassium when taken in large amounts or for a long time, so deglycyrrhizinated (DGL) products are often preferred. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have high blood pressure, heart, or kidney problems.

What Is Belinostat Injection Used For?

Brand name: Beleodaq

Beleodaq (belinostat) injection is approved to treat adult patients with relapsed or refractory peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) — a fast-growing type of lymphoma (blood cancer) that either came back after treatment or never fully responded to it.

This approval is based on how well the cancer responded to the drug, including how long those responses lasted. Whether Beleodaq extends overall survival or improves disease-related symptoms has not yet been established. Continued approval may depend on results from a confirmatory trial.
