Here's the honest picture with licorice and Zynlonta (loncastuximab tesirine). The concern on file is that licorice may rev up a transport protein called P-glycoprotein, which can pump certain drugs around. In theory, more pump activity could lower how much of a drug your body absorbs or keeps around. But this is based only on lab research, not on people taking this exact medication, so the real-world impact is very uncertain.

It's also worth noting that Zynlonta is given as an IV infusion in a clinic, not swallowed, so an absorption effect is even less likely to matter here. Still, since this is a serious cancer therapy, don't add any licorice supplement without first checking with your oncology team or pharmacist.

  • Loncastuximab tesirine-lpyl injection is used to treat a certain type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL; a type of cancer that begins in a type of white blood cells that normally fights infection) that did not respond to or has returned after treatment with at least two other cancer treatments. Loncastuximab tesirine-lpyl is in a class of medications called antibody-drug conjugates. It works by killing cancer cells.
