ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Cefadroxil
Cefadroxil falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Limosilactobacillus Fermentum interacts with.
Limosilactobacillus fermentum preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. fermentum preparations by at least two hours.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing to keep in mind: this interaction works against the probiotic, not against your antibiotic. Cefadroxil works just as well either way. Since cefadroxil is designed to kill bacteria, it doesn't know the difference between the bug causing your infection and the friendly Limosilactobacillus fermentum in your supplement. Taking them at the same time can wipe out a good chunk of those live probiotic organisms, so you may not get the gut benefit you paid for.
The simple fix is timing. Try to space your probiotic and your cefadroxil dose by at least two hours. This is a theoretical concern based on how these products work, not a safety danger, so don't worry, just separate them and check with your pharmacist if you have questions.

Limosilactobacillus fermentum (formerly Lactobacillus fermentum) is a probiotic bacterium found in fermented foods and the human body, used to support gut, immune, and women's health. It is generally well tolerated in healthy people, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if your immune system is weak.
About Cefadroxil
What Is Cefadroxil Used For?
Brand names: Duricef, Ultracef, Cef-Tab
Cefadroxil treats bacterial infections caused by susceptible (antibiotic-sensitive) germs. It is approved for urinary tract infections, skin and skin structure infections, and pharyngitis or tonsillitis caused by Group A strep (Streptococcus pyogenes).
It should only be used for infections proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria that respond to it. Taking it for viruses (like a cold or flu) will not work and contributes to antibiotic resistance.
