Theoretically, taking Limosilactobacillus fermentum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. fermentum.
Limosilactobacillus fermentum preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. fermentum preparations by at least two hours.

Here's the key thing to know: this interaction goes one direction only. Daptomycin (Cubicin) is an antibiotic, and antibiotics can kill off the live bacteria in a probiotic like L. fermentum. So the concern isn't that the probiotic changes how your daptomycin works. Your infection treatment stays just as strong. Instead, the antibiotic may wipe out a good chunk of the probiotic organisms, leaving you with less benefit from the supplement.

This is a theoretical concern based on how the two work, not something proven in studies, so don't be alarmed. A simple fix helps: separate the two by at least two hours when you can. Since daptomycin is usually given as an IV in a clinical setting, ask your pharmacist or doctor how best to time your probiotic around it.

What Is Daptomycin Injection Used For?

Brand names: Cubicin, Dapzura RT

Daptomycin injection is used to treat complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSSI) caused by specific gram-positive bacteria — including MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) — in adults and children ages 1 to 17. It is also used to treat Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infections (bacteremia) in adults and children ages 1 to 17, including adult patients with right-sided infective endocarditis (a serious infection of the heart's inner lining).

Important limits: daptomycin injection is not approved for pneumonia or for left-sided infective endocarditis due to S. aureus. It is also not recommended for infants under 1 year of age due to potential risks to the muscular and nervous systems seen in animal studies.
