Erythromycin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Limosilactobacillus Fermentum interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Limosilactobacillus fermentum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. fermentum.
Limosilactobacillus fermentum preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. fermentum preparations by at least two hours.

Here's the simple version: erythromycin is an antibiotic, and its whole job is to kill or stop bacteria. The catch is that a probiotic like Limosilactobacillus fermentum is made of live, helpful bacteria. If you swallow them around the same time, the erythromycin can wipe out a good chunk of those probiotic organisms before they ever get a chance to do anything. So this interaction is really about the probiotic working less well, not about your antibiotic becoming dangerous.

This is a theoretical concern based on how the two work, not a safety emergency. A common, easy fix is to space them out by at least two hours. Your erythromycin will still treat your infection just fine. If you want to keep taking the probiotic, just check timing with your pharmacist.

About Erythromycin

What Is Erythromycin Used For?

Brand names: Erythro S, PCE, E-Mycin, Erythro-ES, EryPed Chewable, Eryc, Ery-Tab, Rythro Enca, Erythro E-C, Erythro Base, Ilosone, Ilotycin

Erythromycin treats bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. Oral and intravenous forms are used for upper and lower respiratory tract infections, skin and soft-tissue infections, pertussis (whooping cough), Legionnaires' disease, sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia), listeriosis, and other conditions. Erythrocin Lactobionate IV and erythromycin lactobionate injection are specifically for patients who cannot take oral medication or who need rapid, high blood levels due to severe infection — IV therapy should be switched to oral as soon as appropriate.

Erythromycin topical solution 2% and Ery 2% Pads (swabs) are indicated only for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris (acne) and are applied directly to the skin — they are not used for internal infections.
