Here's a little twist worth understanding. Dasiglucagon (Zegalogue) is your emergency rescue medicine, used to raise blood sugar fast when it crashes dangerously low. Madagascar periwinkle is listed as something that may lower blood sugar, but that comes only from animal lab studies in diabetic rats, so the evidence is weak and theoretical.

So these two actually pull in opposite directions. In practice, if periwinkle were nudging your sugar down, you might just find yourself needing your rescue dose a bit more often. Dasiglucagon itself can cause nausea, vomiting, or a headache when used. The bigger concern is the whole raw plant being toxic, so it's not a safe home remedy. Please run any periwinkle use past your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Dasiglucagon Injection Used For?

Brand name: Zegalogue

Zegalogue (dasiglucagon) is used to treat severe hypoglycemia — dangerously low blood sugar — in adults and children aged 6 years and older who have diabetes. It is a rescue medication meant to be used in emergencies when a person cannot eat or drink to raise their blood sugar on their own.

Zegalogue is available as a subcutaneous (under-the-skin) injection and is given by a caregiver or the patient themselves as soon as severe hypoglycemia is recognized. Emergency medical help should be called immediately after using it.
