Here's the simple version: in animal studies, Madagascar periwinkle seemed to push blood sugar down on its own. Since your Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is already working to lower blood sugar (it makes your kidneys pass extra sugar out in your urine), stacking the two together could, in theory, drop your numbers lower than intended.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This concern comes only from lab and animal research, not from studies in people, so it's mostly theoretical. Still, watch for signs of low blood sugar like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or feeling foggy. Honestly, the bigger issue is that the raw plant is toxic and not safe to take at home. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining anything new with Farxiga.

What Is Dapagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Farxiga

Dapagliflozin is used for several serious conditions. It helps improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise). It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.

Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is additionally approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, hospitalization, and urgent visits due to heart failure in adults with heart failure — and to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, including reducing the risk of kidney failure and cardiovascular death, in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of getting worse.
