Here's the gist for your long-acting insulin (Basaglar, Semglee, Lusduna). In studies done on diabetic rats, Madagascar periwinkle seemed to lower blood sugar on its own. So the worry is simple: if it nudges your sugar down at the same time your insulin glargine is already steadily lowering it, the two together could push you too low. That's hypoglycemia, and it can show up as shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or feeling lightheaded.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This is theoretical and based only on animal research, not on people, so we really don't know how strong (if at all) the effect is in humans. Separately, the raw plant itself is toxic and isn't safe as a home remedy. Please don't change your insulin dose. Just loop in your pharmacist or doctor and keep checking your sugars closely if you ever combine them.

What Is Insulin Glargine (rDNA origin) Injection Used For?

Brand names: Basaglar, Lusduna, Semglee

Insulin glargine is used to improve glycemic control (blood sugar management) in adults and pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, and in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is a long-acting basal insulin, meaning it works gradually over the course of the day to keep blood sugar steady.

Insulin glargine is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication where the blood becomes dangerously acidic).
