Here's the simple version: eszopiclone (Lunesta) already calms your brain to help you fall asleep, and motherwort has been reported to have its own mild calming, sedating effect. Put the two together and you may feel more sleepy than you bargained for, with possible next-morning grogginess, dizziness, trouble concentrating, or feeling unsteady on your feet.

I want to be straight with you, though: this concern is theoretical, based on how each one behaves rather than strong studies in people. It isn't about your liver breaking the drug down differently, it's just two relaxing agents stacking up. If you take Lunesta and are thinking about motherwort, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first, and be extra careful with driving until you know how you react.

What Is Eszopiclone Used For?

Brand name: Lunesta

Eszopiclone tablets — sold under the brand name Lunesta and as generics — are indicated for the treatment of insomnia. In clinical studies, eszopiclone helped people fall asleep more quickly (reduced sleep latency) and stay asleep through the night (improved sleep maintenance).

Clinical trials supporting its effectiveness lasted up to 6 months in adults and up to 2 weeks in elderly patients. Lunesta and eszopiclone generics are approved for this same indication across the available tablet formulations.
