Neem + Zopiclone
Zopiclone brand names: Rhovane, Imovane, Zimovane, Apo-Zopiclone, Co Zopiclone, and others.
Zopiclone falls into 2 drug categories that Neem can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, neem leaf extract might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Neem interacts with whole categories of medication. Zopiclone falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Neem in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Zopiclone
Zopiclone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Neem interacts with.
In vitro research shows that neem leaf methanol extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. So far, this reaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Zopiclone is a sleep medicine, and your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break it down and clear it out. Lab studies suggest neem leaf extract may slow that same enzyme. If that happened in real life, zopiclone could hang around longer than usual, which might mean stronger or longer-lasting effects: more drowsiness, that bitter metallic taste, dizziness, or feeling groggy and unsteady the next morning.
The good news is that this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube research, not anything reported in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since both can make you sleepy, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, especially if you're older or take other sedating medicines.

CYTOCHROME P450 2C8 (CYP2C8) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Zopiclone also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C8 (CYP2C8) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that neem leaf methanol extract inhibits CYP2C8 enzymes. So far, this reaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version: neem might slow down how your body clears zopiclone, which could leave a bit more of the sleep medicine in your system than expected. With zopiclone, that usually shows up as feeling extra drowsy, groggy, or unsteady the next morning, plus that bitter metallic taste it's known for. In theory, neem could nudge those effects up a notch.
The honest part is that this is based only on lab (test tube) studies showing neem may block an enzyme called CYP2C8. It has not been seen in real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you're taking concentrated neem supplements alongside zopiclone, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Zopiclone page
“Zopiclone is a prescription sleep aid, which makes this one of the pages I read with real concern, because the most dangerous combinations add sedation of their own. Nearly 80 of these ingredients depress the nervous system, and stacked on a sleeping pill they can bring heavy drowsiness or, at worst, slowed breathing.”

About Neem
What is Neem?
- Skin conditions
- Dental and gum health
- Antimicrobial and antiparasitic
- Digestive upset
- Blood sugar support
- Insect repellent/pesticide
Neem is a tree from India used for centuries in traditional medicine, especially for skin, dental, and antimicrobial purposes. Some small studies are promising for oral health and skin, but high-quality human evidence is limited for most uses. Neem oil and seed extracts can be toxic if swallowed, especially in children, so use with caution and talk to your pharmacist or doctor first.
