Why this applies to Trimipramine

Trimipramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Neem interacts with.

Theoretically, neem leaf extract might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that neem leaf methanol extract inhibits CYP2C9 enzymes. So far, this reaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with trimipramine and neem. Trimipramine is an active medicine on its own (not a prodrug), and your liver helps clear it using an enzyme called CYP2C9. In lab dish studies, neem leaf extract seems to slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could let more trimipramine build up in your system, which might nudge up its usual side effects like drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, dizziness when standing, or a faster heartbeat.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This is only test-tube evidence and has never actually been reported in people. So it's a maybe, not a sure thing. Still, before adding a concentrated neem supplement, run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how you feel.

What Is Trimipramine Used For?

Brand names: Surmontil, Trimip, Rhotrimine, Tripramine, Trimp

Trimipramine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. Endogenous depression — depression that arises from within, rather than from an obvious outside cause — is more likely to respond to treatment than other types.

In clinical studies, trimipramine worked as well as imipramine in hospitalized patients with depression, and was comparable to amitriptyline in less severely depressed outpatients.
