Quercetin + Amlodipine Benzoate
Amlodipine Benzoate brand name: Katerzia.
Amlodipine Benzoate falls into 2 drug categories that Quercetin can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, taking quercetin with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Quercetin interacts with whole categories of medication. Amlodipine Benzoate falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Quercetin in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Amlodipine Benzoate
Amlodipine Benzoate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Quercetin interacts with.
Quercetin can modestly decrease blood pressure in people with mild hypertension. Theoretically, it might have additive blood pressure lowering effects when used with antihypertensive drugs.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: amlodipine (Katerzia) already lowers your blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels. Quercetin, in concentrated supplement doses, may nudge blood pressure down a little on its own. Stack the two together and those effects can add up, so your numbers might dip lower than expected.
If that happens, you may notice dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand up, headache, flushing, or swollen ankles feeling a bit worse. Keep in mind this is mostly theoretical and based on lower-quality studies, and the amount of quercetin you get from foods like apples or onions is very unlikely to cause trouble. It's really the high-dose pills worth asking about. Before adding a quercetin supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor, and don't change your amlodipine on your own.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Amlodipine Benzoate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that pretreatment with quercetin increases plasma levels and prolongs the half-life of a single dose of cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), a substrate of CYP3A4. Animal research also shows that pretreatment with quercetin increases plasma levels and prolongs the half-life of losartan (Cozaar) and quetiapine (Seroquel), substrates of CYP3A4. Other laboratory research also shows that quercetin inhibits CYP3A4. However, one clinical study shows that quercetin can increase the metabolism of midazolam, a substrate of CYP3A4, and decrease serum concentrations of midazolam by about 24% in some healthy individuals, suggesting possible induction of CYP3A4.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: your blood pressure medicine, amlodipine, gets cleared from your body by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Quercetin can tinker with that same enzyme, so in theory it could change how much amlodipine sits in your bloodstream. Most of the lab signals point to quercetin slowing that enzyme, which could let amlodipine build up a little and nudge its effects up. With amlodipine, that might mean more swollen ankles, flushing, dizziness, or your blood pressure dropping lower than expected.
I want to be honest, though: this is based on lab and animal work, and the human data is mixed (one study even hinted the opposite). Food amounts of quercetin are very unlikely to matter. If you're considering high-dose supplements, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Quercetin
What is Quercetin?
- Seasonal allergies
- Antioxidant support
- Heart and blood pressure health
- Anti-inflammatory support
- Immune support
- Exercise recovery
Quercetin is a plant flavonoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties found in many common foods and sold as a supplement. While early research is interesting for allergies, blood pressure, and inflammation, strong human evidence is limited for most uses. It is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking high-dose supplements.
About Amlodipine
What Is Amlodipine Used For?
Brand name: Katerzia
Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.
Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
