ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Chlorothiazide, Methyldopa
Chlorothiazide, Methyldopa falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Quercetin interacts with.
Quercetin can modestly decrease blood pressure in people with mild hypertension. Theoretically, it might have additive blood pressure lowering effects when used with antihypertensive drugs.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combination pill teams up a water pill (chlorothiazide) with methyldopa, and both are working to bring your blood pressure down. The thinking here is pretty simple: quercetin can nudge blood pressure a little lower on its own, so stacking it on top of your medication might push things down further than you want.
If your pressure dips too low, you could feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or off-balance, especially when you stand up quickly. Keep in mind this is mostly theoretical and based on limited research, and the effect of quercetin is usually modest. Food amounts (apples, onions, berries) are unlikely to matter. Before starting a concentrated quercetin supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor, and let them know if you start feeling faint.

Quercetin is a plant flavonoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties found in many common foods and sold as a supplement.
