Quercetin + Torsemide
Torsemide brand names: Demadex, Soaanz.
Torsemide falls into 3 drug categories that Quercetin can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, taking quercetin with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.

These two interact in 3 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 3 Interactions?
Quercetin interacts with whole categories of medication. Torsemide falls into 3 of those categories, so it can interact with Quercetin in 3 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
1 of 3Why this applies to Torsemide
Torsemide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Quercetin interacts with.
Quercetin can modestly decrease blood pressure in people with mild hypertension. Theoretically, it might have additive blood pressure lowering effects when used with antihypertensive drugs.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: torsemide is a water pill that lowers blood pressure by helping your kidneys flush out extra salt and fluid. Quercetin, taken as a concentrated supplement, may nudge blood pressure down a little on its own. Put the two together and those effects can stack up, so your pressure could drop more than expected.
What that might feel like is dizziness, lightheadedness (especially when you stand up fast), feeling unusually tired, or even faintness. To be fair, this is mostly a theoretical add-on effect, and the research behind quercetin's blood pressure lowering is fairly weak. Everyday amounts from food (apples, onions, berries) are very unlikely to matter. Before starting a high-dose supplement, just check with your pharmacist or doctor.

CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES
2 of 3Torsemide also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES.
A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that taking quercetin 500 mg twice daily for 10 days prior to taking diclofenac, a CYP2C9 substrate, increases diclofenac plasma levels by 75% and prolongs the half-life by 32.5%. Animal research also shows that pretreatment with quercetin increases plasma levels and prolongs the half-life of losartan (Cozaar), a substrate of CYP2C9. Furthermore, laboratory research shows that quercetin inhibits CYP2C9.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for you. Your body clears torsemide partly through a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, and quercetin can slow that enzyme down. When the cleanup crew works slower, a bit more torsemide can hang around in your system. That could nudge its water-pill effects up a notch, meaning more urination, dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand, or dehydration, and possibly shifts in salt levels like low potassium or sodium.
Now, the honest part: this is mostly theoretical, drawn from lab work and studies on similar drugs (not torsemide directly), and it took concentrated supplement doses, not the quercetin you'd get from foods like apples or onions. If you're considering high-dose quercetin, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on things.

ORGANIC ANION-TRANSPORTING POLYPEPTIDE SUBSTRATES (OATP)
3 of 3Torsemide also falls under ORGANIC ANION-TRANSPORTING POLYPEPTIDE SUBSTRATES (OATP).
In vitro evidence shows that quercetin can inhibit organic anion-transporting peptide (OATP) 1B1-mediated uptake of estrone-3-sulfate and pravastatin. Furthermore, clinical research in healthy males shows that intake of quercetin along with pravastatin increases the AUC of pravastatin by 24%, prolongs its half-life by 14%, and decreases its apparent clearance by 18%, suggesting that quercetin modestly inhibits the uptake of pravastatin in hepatic cells.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Torsemide (Demadex, Soaanz). Your liver uses a transporter called OATP to take certain drugs in, and quercetin can gently slow that transporter down. Since torsemide relies on these uptake pathways, high-dose quercetin supplements could leave a bit more torsemide circulating, which may slightly boost its water-pill effects.
In practice that might mean more urination, a touch more dizziness or lightheadedness, or low potassium showing up as muscle cramps. Honestly, this is mostly theoretical and built from lab work and a small study on a different drug, so the real-world effect is likely modest. Food amounts of quercetin shouldn't be an issue. Before starting a concentrated supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Torsemide page
“Torsemide (Demadex, Soaanz) is a water pill for fluid buildup from heart failure, kidney disease, or liver disease, and its supplement list earns genuine caution, with 10 of the 251 flagged ingredients rated major. Most entries either pile onto its blood-pressure-lowering effect or add extra diuretic action that can pull your potassium…”

About Quercetin
What is Quercetin?
- Seasonal allergies
- Antioxidant support
- Heart and blood pressure health
- Anti-inflammatory support
- Immune support
- Exercise recovery
Quercetin is a plant flavonoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties found in many common foods and sold as a supplement. While early research is interesting for allergies, blood pressure, and inflammation, strong human evidence is limited for most uses. It is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking high-dose supplements.
About Torsemide
What Is Torsemide Used For?
Brand names: Demadex, Soaanz
Torsemide tablets are used to treat edema — excess fluid buildup causing swelling — associated with heart failure, renal disease, or hepatic disease. Removing that extra fluid can relieve swelling and make breathing easier.
Torsemide tablets are also used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, including strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or alongside other blood pressure medications.
