Penbutolol Sulfate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Rehmannia interacts with.

Animal research shows that rehmannia may have hypotensive effects. Laboratory research shows that formulations of dried and processed rehmannia root inhibit angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE).

Here's the gist: Penbutolol (Levatol) is a beta blocker that lowers your blood pressure by slowing your heart and relaxing blood vessels. Rehmannia, in animal and lab studies, seems to have its own blood-pressure-lowering action and may even act a bit like an ACE inhibitor. So the worry is that the two together could push your pressure down a little too far.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, unusually tired, or faint, especially when standing up quickly. I'll be honest with you, though: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube and animal work, not human studies, so it's far from certain. Still, since both can nudge blood pressure the same direction, check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
