Reishi Mushroom and Deserpidine

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS

Why this applies to Deserpidine

Deserpidine falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Reishi Mushroom interacts with.

Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version. Deserpidine (Harmonyl) is a blood pressure medicine, so it already works to bring your numbers down. Reishi mushroom has shown some blood pressure lowering activity of its own in animal studies and a few people studies, so stacking the two together could, in theory, push your pressure a little too low.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or tired, especially when standing up quickly. I want to be honest though: this concern comes mostly from lab and animal research, so it's more of a 'keep an eye out' than a strong, proven problem. Don't change anything on your own. Just check in with your pharmacist or doctor, and it's a good idea to monitor your blood pressure at home if you do use both.

About Reishi Mushroom

What is Reishi Mushroom?

Reishi Mushroom
  • Immune support
  • Fatigue and general well-being
  • Stress and sleep
  • Inflammation
  • Heart and cholesterol health

Reishi is a traditional Asian mushroom widely used to support the immune system and overall wellness. Human evidence for most of its claimed benefits is limited or low-quality, so it should not replace proven treatments. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or take other medicines.
