Reishi Mushroom and Eprosartan

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS

Why this applies to Eprosartan

Eprosartan falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Reishi Mushroom interacts with.

Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the gist with eprosartan (Teveten) and reishi: both can lower blood pressure, so taking them together could push your numbers down a bit more than expected. Eprosartan already relaxes your blood vessels to bring pressure down, and reishi may add a mild nudge in the same direction. If they stack, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, tired, or woozy, especially when standing up quickly.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: it's mostly animal studies plus mixed results in people, so this is more theoretical than proven. Food-style amounts are unlikely to matter much, while concentrated supplement doses are more likely to. Don't change anything on your own. Check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and consider monitoring your blood pressure at home.

By severity: 4 major · 112 moderate · 22 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Eprosartan page

“Activated charcoal deserves the first look from anyone taking eprosartan (Teveten) for blood pressure, because it can soak up the medicine in the gut and leave less of your dose to do its job. It is one of four major-rated entries among the 138 supplements and herbs on this page, enough to warrant real wariness rather than a shrug.”

About Reishi Mushroom

What is Reishi Mushroom?

Reishi Mushroom
  • Immune support
  • Fatigue and general well-being
  • Stress and sleep
  • Inflammation
  • Heart and cholesterol health

Reishi is a traditional Asian mushroom widely used to support the immune system and overall wellness. Human evidence for most of its claimed benefits is limited or low-quality, so it should not replace proven treatments. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or take other medicines.

About Eprosartan

What Is Eprosartan Used For?

Brand name: Teveten

  • Eprosartan is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Eprosartan is in a class of medications called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It works by blocking the action of certain natural substances that tighten the blood vessels, allowing the blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently.

  • High blood pressure is a common condition, and when not treated it can cause damage to the brain, heart, blood vessels, kidneys, and other parts of the body. Damage to these organs may cause heart disease, a heart attack, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, loss of vision, and other problems. In addition to taking medication, making lifestyle changes will also help to control your blood pressure. These changes include eating a diet that is low in fat and salt, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising at least 30 minutes most days, not smoking, and using alcohol in moderation.
