Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Moexipril is a blood pressure medicine that relaxes your blood vessels. Reishi mushroom may have a mild blood pressure lowering effect of its own. So the concern here is simple: if you take them together, the two could add up and push your numbers a little too low. That can leave you feeling lightheaded, dizzy, tired, or shaky, especially when you stand up quickly.

I want to be honest about the evidence. This mostly comes from lab and animal research, with only a little human data, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a sure thing. If you'd like to try reishi, that's a fine conversation to have with your pharmacist or doctor first. Keeping an eye on your home blood pressure readings is a smart, easy safeguard.

  • Inflammation
  • Heart and cholesterol health

Reishi is a traditional Asian mushroom widely used to support the immune system and overall wellness. Human evidence for most of its claimed benefits is limited or low-quality, so it should not replace proven treatments. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or take other medicines.

About Moexipril

What Is Moexipril Used For?

Brand name: Univasc

Moexipril Hydrochloride tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). They can be used on their own or combined with thiazide diuretics (water pills) when blood pressure is not controlled by moexipril alone.

It's worth knowing that ACE inhibitors, including moexipril, tend to lower blood pressure less effectively in Black patients than in non-Black patients, and Black patients also have a higher risk of a serious swelling reaction called angioedema with ACE inhibitors.
