ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Sorafenib
Sorafenib falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Reishi Mushroom interacts with.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep an eye on with reishi and Sorafenib (Nexavar). The concern isn't really about how your body processes the cancer medicine. Instead, reishi at higher doses may make it a little harder for your blood to clot. Sorafenib already carries its own risk of bleeding and bruising, so stacking the two could add up.
Honestly, this is mostly theoretical and comes from lab and animal work, not solid human studies. One detail stands out: about 1.5 grams a day of reishi didn't seem to affect platelets, but 3 grams a day might. So concentrated supplement doses matter more than a little in food. Watch for easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums, and check with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding it.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Sorafenib page
“If you're on sorafenib (Nexavar) for cancer, be genuinely careful here, and learn the five major-rated entries first. Most of the 285 ingredients listed either have blood-thinning effects that stack onto sorafenib's bleeding risk (more than 200 do) or affect CYP3A4, the liver enzyme that clears the drug, pushing its level too high or t…”

About Reishi Mushroom
What is Reishi Mushroom?
- Immune support
- Fatigue and general well-being
- Stress and sleep
- Inflammation
- Heart and cholesterol health
Reishi is a traditional Asian mushroom widely used to support the immune system and overall wellness. Human evidence for most of its claimed benefits is limited or low-quality, so it should not replace proven treatments. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or take other medicines.
About Sorafenib
What Is Sorafenib Used For?
Brand name: Nexavar
Sorafenib tablets are approved to treat three types of cancer. The first is unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) — liver cancer that cannot be removed with surgery. The second is advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) — kidney cancer that has spread or progressed. Both the brand Nexavar and generic sorafenib tablets are approved for these two uses.
The third use is for locally recurrent or metastatic, progressive differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) — thyroid cancer that has spread or worsened and no longer responds to radioactive iodine treatment. Nexavar and sorafenib tablets are both approved for this use as well.
