Reishi Mushroom and Talinolol

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS

Why this applies to Talinolol

Talinolol falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Reishi Mushroom interacts with.

Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Talinolol is a beta-blocker, the kind of medicine used to lower blood pressure and ease the heart's workload. The concern here is pretty simple: reishi mushroom may have a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of its own. So if you pair it with talinolol, the two could add up and push your pressure lower than intended.

What that might feel like is dizziness, lightheadedness (especially when you stand up quickly), tiredness, or feeling a bit faint. That said, this caution comes mostly from animal and lab studies, with mixed results in people, so it is more of a theoretical flag than a proven problem. If you'd like to try reishi, it is worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor, and keeping an eye on your blood pressure at home is a smart move. Don't change your talinolol on your own.

“Most of what talinolol does, slowing the heart and lowering blood pressure as a beta-blocker, is exactly what the supplements on this page can amplify or undo, so I would approach any combination here with genuine care. • Fatigue and general well-being
  • Stress and sleep
  • Inflammation
  • Heart and cholesterol health

Reishi is a traditional Asian mushroom widely used to support the immune system and overall wellness. Human evidence for most of its claimed benefits is limited or low-quality, so it should not replace proven treatments. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or take other medicines.
