Benzthiazide (Exna) is a thiazide-type water pill that lowers blood pressure by helping your body get rid of extra salt and fluid. Here's the thing with saffron: some early animal and small human studies hint that it can nudge blood pressure down on its own. So if you pair saffron supplements with benzthiazide, the two could add up and push your pressure lower than expected.

In real life that might mean feeling lightheaded, dizzy, or woozy when you stand up, especially early on. I want to be honest though, this is mostly theoretical and based on weak lab and animal data, so it's not a strong worry. Food amounts of saffron in cooking are very unlikely to matter. Before starting a saffron supplement, just check with your pharmacist or doctor.

Saffron is a costly spice that has shown promise in early studies for mild-to-moderate depression and some mood and PMS symptoms, but most research uses small trials, so results are not definitive.
