Here's the gist: saffron may gently lower blood pressure on its own. Hydrochlorothiazide (Microzide) is a water pill that already does the same job by helping your body release extra salt and fluid. So if you take a saffron supplement alongside it, the two could stack up and push your blood pressure a little lower than expected.

If that happens, you might notice things like dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand up, or feeling more tired than usual. I want to be honest, though: this concern comes mostly from animal and early lab work, so it's more theoretical than proven, and small culinary amounts of saffron in cooking are unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplement doses are where I'd be more cautious. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding saffron.

Saffron is a costly spice that has shown promise in early studies for mild-to-moderate depression and some mood and PMS symptoms, but most research uses small trials, so results are not definitive. What Is Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Esidrix, Hydro, Microzide, HydroDiuril, Hydro-D, Oretic, Aquazide H, Aquazide, HCTZ

Hydrochlorothiazide treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, either alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

It also treats edema (fluid buildup) linked to congestive heart failure, hepatic cirrhosis (liver scarring), and kidney conditions including nephrotic syndrome. Hydrochlorothiazide tablets are additionally indicated for edema caused by corticosteroid or estrogen therapy, and edema from acute glomerulonephritis or chronic renal failure. Inzirqo (the oral suspension) is specifically approved for both hypertension and edema in adult and pediatric patients.
