Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Sesame interacts with.

Taking sesame oil with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Clinical research shows that replacing other cooking oil with sesame oil can lower systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) in patients with or without hypertension. There is also some evidence that sesame oil has additive effects in patients also taking atenolol, nifedipine, and/or hydrochlorothiazide. In patients using nifedipine, using a blend of sesame oil and rice bran oil for cooking reduces both SBP and DBP more than nifedipine alone.

Here's the gist: sesame, especially used as a cooking oil, may gently lower blood pressure on its own. So when you pair it with hydrochlorothiazide, which is already working to bring your numbers down, the two can add up. Think of it as a small nudge in the same direction, not a dramatic clash.

If your blood pressure drops a little too low, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or woozy when you stand up. For most people, the amount of sesame used in everyday cooking is unlikely to cause trouble. This is mostly theory based on how sesame behaves, so don't panic. If you're using a lot of sesame oil regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your readings.

What Is Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Esidrix, Hydro, Microzide, HydroDiuril, Hydro-D, Oretic, Aquazide H, Aquazide, HCTZ

Hydrochlorothiazide treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, either alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

It also treats edema (fluid buildup) linked to congestive heart failure, hepatic cirrhosis (liver scarring), and kidney conditions including nephrotic syndrome. Hydrochlorothiazide tablets are additionally indicated for edema caused by corticosteroid or estrogen therapy, and edema from acute glomerulonephritis or chronic renal failure. Inzirqo (the oral suspension) is specifically approved for both hypertension and edema in adult and pediatric patients.
