ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Bosentan
Bosentan falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Saffron interacts with.
Animal and human research suggests that saffron extract can decrease blood pressure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind with saffron and bosentan (Tracleer). Saffron has shown a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect in some animal and early human studies. Since bosentan also relaxes and widens blood vessels to ease pressure in the lung arteries, stacking the two could, in theory, nudge your overall blood pressure down a little more than expected.
If that happened, you might notice things like lightheadedness, dizziness when you stand up, or feeling more tired or flushed. I want to be honest though: this concern is mostly theoretical and based on lab and animal data, so it's not a strong, well-proven interaction. Food amounts of saffron are very unlikely to matter. Before starting a saffron supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Saffron
What is Saffron?
- Depression and low mood
- Anxiety
- PMS symptoms
- Memory and cognition
- Eye health (age-related macular degeneration)
Saffron is a costly spice that has shown promise in early studies for mild-to-moderate depression and some mood and PMS symptoms, but most research uses small trials, so results are not definitive. It is generally well tolerated in food and small supplement amounts, but high doses can be harmful and it should be avoided in pregnancy. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using saffron supplements.
About Bosentan
What Is Bosentan Used For?
Brand name: Tracleer
Bosentan is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. In adults, it helps improve the ability to exercise and slows how quickly the disease gets worse.

Bosentan Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Bosentan as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Saffron — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
