Here's the idea behind this pairing. Tzield (teplizumab) is an infused antibody used to delay the onset of type 1 diabetes by calming down the immune cells that attack the pancreas. Selenium, on the other hand, may give the immune system a little nudge in the opposite direction. So in theory, high-dose selenium supplements could work against what Tzield is trying to do and make it slightly less effective.

I want to be honest about how shaky this is. The concern comes mostly from lab and test-tube research, not from real patients on Tzield, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. Selenium from a normal, balanced diet isn't the worry here, concentrated supplements are. Since Tzield is given as a short course of infusions, just mention any selenium product to the team managing your care before starting it.

What Is Teplizumab-mzwv injection Used For?

Brand name: Tzield

Tzield is used to delay the onset of Stage 3 type 1 diabetes (T1D) in adults and children age 1 and older who have Stage 2 T1D. It is also used to delay the decline in the body's own insulin production in children and teens ages 8 to 17 who were recently diagnosed with Stage 3 T1D.

Tzield is not effective as a disease-modifying treatment for blood sugar problems that are not caused by an autoimmune process, such as type 2 diabetes. Evidence of safety and effectiveness is limited in patients age 45 and older with Stage 2 T1D.
